We are living in a time called “perilous times”. Paul wrote about these days to Timothy, admonishing him to “know” future events. If he told Timothy to “know” way back then, how much more should we “know” and understand the days of which Paul wrote, since we are now living in those days! Look around you. The very things Paul declared are upon us. He said, “in the last days perilous times shall come”, meaning days of “great stress, trouble, danger on every hand, hard” and “difficult to bear”. One can just turn on the news and realize that Paul saw the future! Described in detail!
How do we, as last-day saints, deal with these difficult to bear days? Days when God’s children are maligned, attacked, persecuted, made to suffer horrific torture, and even beheaded! We learn from the early Church. They faced great hardships, persecution and death. What did they do? They held a prayer meeting! They combated the onslaught of the enemy with prayer, asking God for new strength and grace to face the enemy!
God answered them by giving them a refilling of the Holy Spirit, boldness to speak out and an anointing of great power! “Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto your servants, that with all boldness they may speak Your Word, By stretching forth Your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the Name of Your Holy Child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together...they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness (Act. 4:29-31).
